New England Sled Dog Club

More Tamworth photosI recently had the opportunity to watch part of the Tamworth Sled Dog Race. First run in 1937, the race is the oldest sprint dog sled race in the country. Every winter, the Tamworth Outing Club hosts sled dog races on Chocorua Lake and the surrounding hills.

Spectators are welcome to walk, snowshoe or ski onto the ice. Hot chocolate, chili, hamburgers and hotdogs are usually available, and there is often a bonfire where marshmallows are toasted.
